Firefighters arrived at Mitchell Avenue to find the rear of a single storey house fully involved in the fire and threatening a neighbouring property.

Crews set up hose lines and worked quickly to attack the fire internally and externally.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews conducted a search of the home for occupants, but found it empty at the time of the fire.

Approximately 20 firefighters worked for around 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and specialist fire investigators will attend the scene later today.

A community advise message was issued for smoke in the area.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted at the scene.
