Fire Recue Victoria (FRV) crews have rescued a man from a residential unit fire in Flemington.

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes of being called to find smoke issuing from a ground floor unit in the three-storey complex.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the home and conducted a search of the premises.

A male occupant was located inside the unit and brought to safety by firefighters, who administered first aid to the patient until Ambulance Victoria arrived on scene.

The occupant was transported to hospital.

The fire was contained to a bedroom of the ground floor unit.

All other residents of the building were able to return to their homes once firefighters had ventilated the building of smoke.

No other injuries were reported.
