Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in Sayers Road, Hoppers Crossing at 12.55 this morning following several calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof space of a single-storey building, so the response was escalated.

A large security gate hampered access to the property which appeared to be under construction.

FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began an external attack on the fire as well as protecting the adjoining properties.

The fire was deemed Under Control at 1.54am.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV specialists.

Firefighters remained on scene overnight to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene in support of FRV operations.
