4.36am: The fire is now under control.
4.20am: FRV and CFA crews are responding to a significant grass fire at Laverton Wetlands, Altona.
Callers to Triple Zero (000) reported seeing two fires, which were spreading.
Firefighters arrived at the Bell Avenue scene at 1.42am.
Upon arrival, crews immediately escalated the response, sending additional appliances and resources.
The fire is now three hectares in size.
Firefighters are working together to attack the fire and are making progress in containing the fire.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria crews are also on scene.
An advice message has been issued for communities in Altona and Altona Meadows.
There is no threat to people or houses, but people should monitor conditions and stay informed.
