Firefighters battle Malvern restaurant fire

At 1.17AM, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in Station Street Malvern after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a shop on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a single storey 5 x 10 metre restaurant fully involved in fire and called for additional resources including an aerial appliance.

Two people self-evacuated and firefighters focussed on protecting adjoining businesses and checking for occupants. No further occupants were located and no injuries were reported.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene in support of FRV operations.

In total, 28 firefighters and 10 appliances attended the blaze.

The fire was deemed Under Control at 2.25 AM with the building sustaining severe damage.

Firefighters will remain on scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and to make the scene safe.

The Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) was requested to attend to help determine the cause.
