At 6.48AM, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to Macpherson Street Footscray, after callers to Triple Zero reported smoke and flames were issuing from a first-floor unit.
Crews arrived on scene within 4 minutes and found a unit fire on the first level of a block of six units. Additional firefighting appliances were despatched in response to this information.
Two occupants are in the hands of Ambulance Victoria and FRV after self-evacuating out of a first-floor window. Firefighters evacuated other residents.
Firefighters are undertaking an internal attack of the fire, which was contained to one unit, and made access to the building to determine of there is any fire extension.
Victoria police is on the scene.
The fire was deemed Under Control at 7.08AM, with the damage to the unit extensive.
The fire was caused by a lithium battery on a e-bike on charge.
