Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at 02.53am on Larch Street, Thomastown after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a unit fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a fire in an unoccupied double-storey unit of a complex.
Crews gained access to the premises and wore breathing apparatus to battle the blaze.
The fire started on the ground floor and extended into two bedrooms on the top floor.
Firefighters swiftly contained the blaze and the scene was deemed Under Control at 3.08am.
A total of nine appliances responded to the fire.
The incident was treated as suspicious, and the scene handed to Victoria Police.
