Firefighters tackle Caulfield fire

UPDATE 11AM

The Norman Robinson Stand and 1876 bar were significantly affected by fire while another bar and an adjoining stand sustained some water damage.

Quick work by fire crews and an effective sprinkler system prevented any extension of the fire to adjoining stands.

No injuries to course employees or the public were reported.

Over 65 firefighters and 17 appliances were committed to the blaze.

Ambulance Victoria was on scene for firefighter health monitoring.

Victoria Police was on scene to assist with FRV operations.

A council building surveyor will attend to assess the building.

Crews remain on scene to make the site safe.

The incident has been deemed suspicious and will be handed to Victoria Police for investigation.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Station Street, Caulfield at 6.19am after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire in the grandstand at Caulfield Racecourse.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fire in the centre of a 200m by 100m brick structure.

The response was escalated to a third alarm with crews working to contain the fire.

Crews swiftly contained the fire to the centre building with the incident deemed Under Control at 7.09am.

A community advice was issued for a building fire and smoke in the area.
