Firefigthers battle Sunbury house blaze

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews, assisted by CFA, responded to an incident in Scott Street, Sunbury at 1.09pm after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single storey brick veneer house.

Crews donned breathing apparatus and entered the burning home to begin an internal attack on the fire. Firefighters searched the home and confirmed no persons were inside.

All occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely without injury.

The fire was deemed Under Control at 2pm.

The roof of the house has been severely damaged in the fire.

The fire was caused accidentally by a discarded cigarette butt.

Nine appliances and 33 firefighters were committed to the firefight.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended in support of FRV operations.
