At 4.33AM, FRV was called to an incident on Willesden Road, Hughesdale, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire at a church.
FRV Firefighters arrived on scene to find the tower of the two-storey, 60m x 30m brick Greek Orthodox Church on fire.
FRV Firefighters assisted with the evacuation of one person.
An internal firefighting attack together with the external use of an aerial firefighting appliance ensured that the fire was under control in 30 minutes and contained to the second floor of the tower.
Community advice was issued for smoke in the area.
FRV specialist fire investigators will be attending this morning to confirm the cause of the fire which is not believed to be suspicious.
FRV firefighters will remain on scene until mid-morning to continue extinguishment and other fire duties.
