FRV crews contain Kew house fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at 9.47am on Parkhill Road, Kew after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a weatherboard house, about 10m by 15m, at the rear of a property fully involved.

Crews wore breathing apparatus to gain entry to the property and conduct a primary search as one person was initially unaccounted for.

A short time later, it was confirmed the occupant was not home at the time.

The scene was deemed Under Control at 10.09am.

A total of 22 firefighters and 8 appliances responded.

The fire was contained to a front deck area and two bedrooms, but the house sustained severe smoke and structural damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended in support of FRV operations.

The power and gas companies attended.

A council building surveyor has been requested to assess the structure.
