Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at 4.25am on Melrich Road, Bayswater after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a factory fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a concrete factory with a tin roof, about 30m by 20m, fully involved.

FRV and CFA crews wore breathing apparatus and conducted an external attack of the blaze as there were concerns about the structural integrity of the building.

The response was escalated, and an aerial appliance was used to help contain the fire.

There were no occupants on scene at the time of the incident and no injuries reported.

A total of 10 appliances and 22 firefighters responded.

The incident was deemed Under Control at 6.18am.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for several hours due to a high volume of material inside that needs to be removed, and to monitor hotspots.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene to assist firefighting operations.

FRV’s Fire Investigation Unit is expected to attend in business hours to help determine the cause.

The power and gas companies attended to isolate the property.

An advice message has been issued for smoke in the area.
