Firefighters tackle Ringwood house fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at 3.53pm on Heathmont Road, Ringwood after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find flames issuing from a single-storey weatherboard home, about 10m by 15m.

Crews wore breathing apparatus to battle the blaze, which had entered the roof space, and conduct a primary search of the property as the occupants were initally unaccounted for.

The owners arrived a short time later and confirmed the home was vacant at the time.

The scene was deemed Under Control at 4.32pm.

A total of 10 appliances and 30 firefighters attended.

The home was severely damaged by fire, and the remainder sustaining smoke damage.

Sections of the roof collapsed.

FRV operations will continue into the evening to monitor hots spot.

The cause was attributed to a discarded cigarette.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended in support of FRV operations.
