FRV fights significant fire at Chapel Street, South Yarra

Update at 4.50AM

Around 50 firefighters and 15 fire trucks were on scene to tackle the blaze at a nightclub on the second floor of the building.

The premises were unoccupied at the time.

The scene was declared Under Control at 3.48am.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area.

The fire has been deemed suspicious.

Chapel Street is expected to remain closed until mid-morning as there are structural issues with the fire-affected building.

2.38AM

At 1.48am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) was called to an incident on Chapel Street at South Yarra after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a fire involving a two-storey building around 25m x 45m.

The response was escalated.

The fire is not yet Under Control and firefighters remain on the scene.
