FRV responds to Coburg North scrap yard fire

The fire was brought Under Control at 7.30pm.

FRV crews remained on scene for a prologued period to fully extinguish the wreckers yard fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but FRV and Victoria Police will work together to investigate.

Worksafe and the EPA were notified.

POSTED 5.30pm

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded at 5.20pm on Hocking Street, Coburg North after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire at a scrap yard.

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a facility, approximately 60m by 30m, fully involved, with recycled cars and shipping containers under threat, and the response was escalated.

There were exposures on three sides, with neighbouring properties being protected from fire and smoke.

Multiple aerial appliances responded to help tackle the blaze.

Smoke was travelling in a northerly direction.

As of 6pm, the fire was not yet Under Control.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area and nearby residents are urged avoid the area.

The water company was requested to attend.

The gas and power companies were also on scene.
