At 12.04am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire on Lygon Street at Brunswick East after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a restaurant on fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the rear of the single storey brick restaurant in a shopping strip.
It was reported that 15 people were inside the building at the time of the fire.
All persons evacuated, with Ambulance Victoria treating one person for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and were able to knock down the fire quickly.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours, fully extinguishing the fire and checking to ensure there was no fire extension into the ceiling.
Crews also ventilated the heavily smoke logged premises.
Firefighters brought the blaze Under Control at 12.19AM, 11 minutes after arriving on scene.
The fire has damaged a rear room and roof area of the restaurant.
The fire has not been deemed suspicious.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted FRV on scene.
