Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a house fire in Werribee with reports of two children inside on 16 May.

Ambulance Victoria paramedics released the children when they arrived on scene.

The fire involved a single storey brick veneer home which was well alight when fire crews arrived on scene.

A third child was unaccounted for and fire crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning building and conducted a search, but the child had already left for school.

The fire was bought under control at 08.29AM, 23 minutes after fire crews arrived on scene.

Fire fighters then checked for fire extension to neighbouring properties with no fire spread detected.

Smoke alarms alerted the neighbours that there was a fire adjacent to them.

The two children were transported to hospital for observation and assessment.

The fire started on a cooktop, which then spread to the rangehood and into the roof space causing considerable damage to the home.

Victoria Police were on scene.
