At 10.25pm on Thursday 14 November, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire at Irving Road, Toorak, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the top floor of a 40m x 40m double storey brick house.

Two female occupants managed to escape the fire and were treated for smoke inhalation.

They reported their two dogs and four cats to be missing.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning home and attacked the fire on the upper level.

Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly and contain it to one room.

Smoke logging occurred through the remainder of the top floor.

The missing pets were found by firefighters uninjured, hiding in another section of the house.

Firefighters used an aerial appliance to access the roof of the home and ensure there were no hot spots in the ceiling.

Firefighters brought the blaze Under Control at 11.05pm, 39 minutes after arriving on scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but will be investigated by the FRV Fire Investigation Unit.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted FRV on scene.
