Seven people evacuated safely from Notting Hill unit fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a unit fire in Notting Hill at 3.02PM after a call to Triple Zero (000) reported a bin fire threatening the garage.

Crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the first floor of a 20 x 20 metre double storey unit.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, searched the inside of the residence, and seven occupants were evacuated without injury. Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene in support of FRV operations.

The fire is believed to have originated from a rubbish fire beside the home before extending into the wall cavity of the unit.

In total, 32 firefighters and 8 appliances attended the blaze.

The blaze was deemed Under Control at 3.49PM.
