South Yarra cafe fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters were quick on the scene of a cafe fire in South Yarra this afternoon.

Crews were called to the business in Toorak Road about 4pm following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls. 

Arriving within three minutes, firefighters were met with smoke billowing from the café on the ground floor of a double storey retail complex. 

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building and attacked the fire in the kitchen area of the café. 

Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area of the business. 

The roof space has been checked to ensure the fire has not spread any further into the building. 

The café and surrounding businesses have sustained received significant smoke logging due to the fire. 

Firefighters are expected to be on scene for several hours to ensure the blaze is fully extinguished and remove smoke.

All employees and patrons of the café were able to evacuate to safety and no injuries have been reported. 

The fire was declared under control at 04:36pm, 31 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene. 

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but will be investigated.
